Blocking from Online Casinos
A new idea toward protecting underage gamblers in the UK has stirred up quite a
bit of speculation and curiosity. Tibboh, one of the key Internet Service
Providers (ISP) in the United Kingdom has announced a plan of web content
filtering. Just this word alone is enough to bring up the hackles on just about
anyone within the online casino industry – or just the internet industry in
general. Tibboh announced a plan to go through the Web and classify billions of
sites based on their topics and then allow parents to block these pages from
their home computers without a password.
The idea behind the filtering is to keep underage gamblers not only away from
the online casinos, but away from any sort of temptation. Although internet
gambling sites are not allowed to accept gamblers under the age of 18, this has
not really stopped some under age gamblers from finding loopholes and borrowing
their parents credit cards for the transactions. Tibboh plans to classify a
whopping three billion websites and give them a rating based on appropriate age
– from U to 18 according to the ISP. One of the more innovative features is the
creation of a link through social media, so that users logged into Facebook with
a set ID can then be blocked from online casinos and dangerous sites using
internet filters for the rest of they’re time using the internet.
This new system of content filtering would not be used in masse without the
permission of UK households, but rather is intended for use by parents with
underage children in the house. The ISP would provide the service and would give
parents that one extra layer of security from the threat that online casinos
pose to underage potential gamblers. |
