Bipartisan Support Growing
Congressman Barney Frank has been working on passing new online casino gambling
legislation in the United States for more than three years now, and during that
time, one of the key goals has been to gain bipartisan support for the
pro-internet gambling bills in the US. Congressman’s signature bill has been a
proposal that will fully legalize, regulate, and license online casinos for the
US market. The bulk of the cosigners on this proposal have long been fellow
democrats. In the past year however, new studies, and a big push of new research
and information to the politicians has resulted in several cosponsors for the
bill that are Republicans as well.
The bipartisan support for Frank’s legislation is really the key that will
decide whether or not this online casino gambling legislation ever passes
through Congress. There is a ton of democratic support, but the current makeup
of the House and Senate means that there absolutely has to bipartisan support if
there is any hope that it will pass through each. As it stands, it has been a
lot of objections and setbacks in even having a first hearing for any of the
online casino gambling related bills – Frank’s primary bill, as well as the
other bill that deals with the taxation on a regulated internet gambling
industry.
Frank’s bill was supposed to have its first Congressional hearing last week;
that did not happen and there has been no set day for a new hearing. All of the
setbacks, delays, and objections to Frank’s bills only serve to emphasize just
how integral support from both the Democrats and the Republicans will be to ever
finding passage for the bill. |
