Banning Online Casinos the Problem
The claims that banning and blocking online casinos only worsens the problem has
been the central argument in cases all over the world. The US and Australia are
currently tops in the fight to legalize forms of internet gambling and betting,
and if the latest media spotlight on India is any indication, India is next. The
Indian gaming laws are incredibly old and there is controversy over why the
Indian government is still allowing laws that were created decades ago to apply
to a new medium that has been around for about a decade. Online casinos first
launched into the market in the late 90s, since that time they have spread all
over the world, onto ever continent and into every country. The internet
gambling and betting medium is as pervasive as the internet and cannot simply be
ignored.
For several years now there has been only a minor level of interest on the
Indian online casino gambling and betting industry. In the past several weeks,
however, controversy within the sports betting industry is putting the situation
under new scrutiny. There have been harsh claims made lately of corruption and
match-fixing in the Twenty20 cricket tournament that took place in India and
Indians and the rest of the world are calling for some action. The fact is,
non-regulation and banning just fosters corruption in the online casinos and
betting sites. The only way that has been proven to effectively control these
industries is clear regulation.
The Indian government has not yet made any moves to effectively regulate the
online casinos and internet betting industries and there is a hope that this
latest sporting scandal will provide enough proof and impetus to effect some
strong changes in India’s gaming laws. |
