Taking the Bait
It’s a pretty risky decision but someone had to make the choice to step forward
and identify themselves and their business in the Kentucky online casino domain
name case that made it all the way to the Kentucky Supreme Court over the past
year. The case has pitted the gambling sites against the state of Kentucky, and
the Supreme Court has mandated that the actual gambling sites step forward and
identify themselves before a ruling will be handed down. The only problem with
the scenario though is the fact that online casinos putting their name forward
then risk further action from the US federal government – the entire reason that
the iMEGA advocacy group has been acting on behalf of all of the domain names
threatened in the case.
The Kentucky Supreme Court has asked that at least one gambling site step
forward and clearly identify itself in the case. After that request, there were
crickets heard chirping as the online casinos all stayed silent and weighed the
options in the case. The operator of the TruePoker.com gambling site has decided
to take one for the team and Yatahay Limited has stepped forward as one of the
domain names implicated of illegal gambling offerings in the Kentucky case. The
case had stalled in the Supreme Court and would have sided in favor of the state
if no online casino gambling company was willing to step up within the three
week time period granted.
Now that Yatahay Limited has named itself to the courts, the case will
immediately reactivate and the Kentucky Supreme Court will immediate pick back
up the case and make a ruling that is wholly based on Kentucky law, rather than
the default judgment that was given to the state while there were no online
casinos naming themselves openly. |
