Bookmakers Vigilant
Online casino sports book operators in the UK are speaking out in the debate
this week about charging the operators a “betting fee” for the privilege of
offering bets on the major sporting events. There is a growing concern in the UK
lately that the increasing number of sponsorship deals between the sports books
and the sporting teams has the potential to severely compromise the integrity of
the games in the long run. The individual sporting teams are now closely linked
with the online casinos and sports books that offer the deals. The Sports
Minister for the UK feels like this trend needs to be addressed at the
regulatory in the US to prevent betting companies from unfairly influencing the
outcome of sporting matches.
The sports books and betting companies are not pleased with this new line of
debate however because it would force the online bookmakers to pay a fee to
offer all of the bets on teams that they are currently offering and profiting
from. There is a bit of the “don’t mess with a good thing” mentality going on at
the online casino and sportsbook level right now. The betting companies are very
vigilant about monitoring the bets and watching out for any suspicious betting
activity.
Sponsorships have been in place for some time already and there have yet to be
any reports of the sponsorship deals compromising the integrity of the sporting
teams or of the online casinos and sportsbooks. The system is working and the
gambling companies have effective systems in place to prevent fraudulent
activity and to catch anything suspicious that does arise. The companies are now
entering the debate and asking that the government step back from attempts to
further regulate and monitor this industry. |
