Torn Over Online Casinos
The Indian tribes in California are in discordance right now as the online
casino poker gambling issue comes to a head. The issue is whether this push
toward internet poker will be a positive move for the tribes or if they will
lose the ability to remain competitive if the whole state is able to engage in
online poker gambling. The key to the issue lies in the number of tribes that
would be willing to take this new technology in stride and offer this form of
gambling alongside the land casinos. The California government and politicians
are still considering legalizing intrastate internet poker and the tribes are in
a debate right now amongst themselves to decide whether or not they should
support or object to the internet poker legislation.
The tribes are in a debate because, just like the land casinos all over the US,
there is a big fear that the internet is going to overthrow the viability and
profit margins that the land gambling venues bring in. Right now California
gamblers only legally have access to brick and mortar gambling sites. There are
online casino and poker gambling sites that able to illegally access California
gamblers, but the support for the internet poker industry would hopefully
eliminate the need for the illegal gambling sites. Legalized intrastate gambling
would not only bring in new revenues for the state coffers but tribes in support
of the internet poker legislation assert that internet poker is a very positive
move for the state of California.
The debate is waging on between the two sides within the tribes and despite the
fact that many politicians have asserted the benefit of internet poker, some
tribes are outright opposed to introducing any sort of competition within the
market, and that includes internet poker particularly. |
