Taking Time for Online Casinos
The South African online casino gambling industry has been highly anticipated
for some time now and the regulations are taking longer than some in the
industry anticipated. At the same time, this is a big issue and a huge change
that will take place in the South African market so it is understandable that
the government is taking its time. Implementation of these gambling regulations
is a big step for the South African government and one that seems decades away
just a few short years ago. While the S.A. government was initially highly
opposed to the online casinos, the government has since taken the position of
“if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.”
Controlling the online casino gambling industry is incredibly hard and the S.
African government decided that a regulated market was far safer for the
gamblers than a banned market where the sites merely operated on the black
market. But the biggest news to happen so far has been the announcement that the
online casinos might be taken back off the table because of moral outrage coming
from some politicians and members of the community. This legislation has been
widely accepted for many months now and there were few very loud rejections.
All the more reason that the online casino gambling industry is so surprised by
the moral outrage claims. There is a growing fear that the new legislation for
the internet gambling industry could be stalled and possibly ended if this line
of debate continues for much longer. If it’s going to happen though, this close
to the passage of the bill, it really wouldn’t be hard to put the internet
gambling issue back on the agenda in a couple months time. |
