Pushing Through Online Casinos
The media attention and international frenzy over legalizing the online casino
gambling industry in the United States died down over the past several months
because Congress was not in session and there was a bit of a hiatus on the
efforts until the pro-internet gambling bills were closer to consideration in
the House and Senate. Now that September is upon the industry once again though
the attention is ramping up and support for Barney Frank’s bill that would
legalize and regulate the foreign and offshore online casinos is gaining
increased support. Supporters have actually gone so far as to now advertise in
political publications in an effort to increase awareness about Frank’s
pro-internet gambling bill that is up in Congress in the coming session.
One of the key arguments at this point in time for the legalization, licensing,
and regulation of online casinos is the fact that tax revenue from the internet
gambling industry could pay for some of these new programs that the Obama
administration is hoping to initiate. One of the big drawbacks to the healthcare
initiatives is the fact that there is very little money to actually fund these
programs right now and Obama’s team cannot actually say where the money is going
to come from. The advertisement’s for Frank’s bill notes that the online casinos
will generate millions in additional funds annually – this tax revenue could
certainly, in part, fund the health care programs in question.
The online casino gambling debate is hitting new levels as the economic crises
in the United States deepens and the current gambling industry legislation is
increasingly viewed as a burden on international relations and a possible means
for funding needed programs in the US. |
