It's Not All Rosy
The sponsorship deals in the UK have really taken centre stage in the
international media in the past several months because of the sheer surge in the
number of online casinos and sports betting companies that are seeking out these
sponsorship deals with UK sports teams and clubs. The industry news hit earlier
this month that 777Ball.com had successfully signed a deal with the Cardiff City
football club for sponsorship of the club and 777Ball would provide the shirts
for the team with the online casino sports book’s logo. The UK Gambling
Commission though made the controversial decision to block the sponsorship deal
and demanded that the teams remove the shirts before any game play.
The move by the Gambling Commission was attributed to the Commission’s policies
regarding white labelled online casinos and internet betting and gambling sites.
The internet gambling company is a bit miffed by the rejection of the
sponsorship deal and executives from 777Ball, who are based out of the
Philippines, have flown to the UK to discuss the situation with the UK and to
discuss methods that could be put in place to rectify the situation and allow
the online casino sports betting site to maintain the sponsorship deal.
Interestingly, the Cardiff City football club is not wholeheartedly committed to
the 777Ball online casino gambling and betting site as the sponsors of the
teams. The deal was signed because 777Ball was willing to come to the table with
money. But if the UK Gambling Commission continues to ban the sponsorship deal
then the football club will move onto some of the other interested sponsors that
the club chairperson, Peter Ridsdale indicated were also interested in
sponsorship. |
