Rumors Out of Rome
The hottest news on the market this month centers on the claims out of Rome
Casino that online gamblers are able to use their American Express cards to make
payments on the site. Although Visa and MasterCards are widely accepted in the
international and European gambling markets, AmEx has a very strict policy in
place that prohibits online casino gambling transactions of any sort and within
any country as a matter of standard and basic policy. Rampant rumors lately have
flown around the Web and on the popular forums that indicated that AmEx policy
was changing and that Rome Casino was one of the first sites able to process the
AmEx transactions. These rumors though are entirely unfounded and false
according to the CEO at AmEx.
American Express has not altered it’s strict ban against online casino gambling
transactions and Vice President at American Express, Christine Elliot, publicly
noted that “It is a long-standing policy that American Express cards cannot be
accepted for gambling – either online or offline and the Rome Casino is no
exception.” With this very rapid and to-the-point announcement from AmEx on the
payment processing situation the rumors about an AmEx entry into the internet
gambling market are firmly squashed. At the heart of AmEx’s policy is a respect
for the UIGEA.
However controversial the UIGEA may be in the international online casino
gambling industry American Express has no plans to lift the ban on processing
gambling transactions until the US has drastically different policies in
place…and even then there is no guarantee that AmEx will immediately enter the
gambling industry. |
