Promises, Promises
The British Columbia government has had a bit of an about-face on the
government’s approach to online casino gambling. BC’s Gordon Campbell more than
a decade ago promised that there would not be any major expansions in the land
and internet gambling industries because Campbell did not want to develop an
economy that exploited the gamblers losers who were losing their money. Campbell
actually went so far as to note that he intended to reduce the scope of the
gambling industry. Campbell’s policies didn’t work though and have made
disastrous headlines over the past decade as he attempted to use police force to
fight the online casinos and land gambling companies.
Now, the land and online casino gambling industry in Canada and British Columbia
is worth millions annually and is only continuing to grow. The lottery
corporation in BC is the real winner, the BC Lottery is huge and has
historically been the only legal form of gambling in the region – and gamblers
and bettors jumped at the opportunity and invested millions in the lottery over
the years. News out of BC in the past couple of months indicates that gambling
is expanding in the region and there will be some very significant developments
and expansions from the lottery corporation into more online casino gambling
sectors of the industry.
The revenue potential of the online casinos is really incredible and that is
just too tempting for many governments that are now facing budget crises from
the current market. The massive profit potential will only continue now that
internet gambling has been given a green light to legally operate in the area. |
