Worth the Price
Addictive and problem gambling is a global concern, one that is really facing
the entire international population because of the surge in gambling at the
online casinos. The internet is a pervasive medium and although many countries
have taken measures to prevent the internet gambling sites from accessing the
gamblers, that is not always entirely effective. In fact, gamblers all over the
world have found avenues to circumvent national legislation for a chance to
gamble at the foreign online casinos or place bets on international sporting
events. One concern that is cropping up is the issue of controlling problem and
addictive behaviors in such an invasive environment. The online casinos are
everywhere these days and in unregulated markets there are fewer and fewer
resources to legitimately assist gamblers.
This is when a society has to ask itself if the lucrative nature of the online
casino gambling industry is worth the price of the negative social aspects that
often accompany the industry. And even beyond that issue is the fact that some
countries have deemed the price of the online casinos as too high and have begun
to block and ban the internet gambling companies – but that is largely
ineffective and now the internet gambling industry is operating on the black
market in many countries and this is proving even more dangerous for the
internet gamblers.
So where is the medium for online casinos? To regulate or ban, that is the
question. There is a lot of conflicting information out right now about the
addictive nature of the internet gambling industry versus land gambling…and the
verdict is still out as the evidence is still conflicting and most inconclusive
when looked at as a comprehensive whole. |
