Israeli Gambling Questioned
Online casino gambling in Israel is illegal and the Israel newspapers have just
reported that several arrests have taken place because of those allegedly
involved in operating an illegal internet gambling operation within the country.
Those arrested are now facing trial and they actually have a strong case because
they claim that their business is completely transparent in its operation and
has all of the appropriate business licenses and the such. The claim is that the
online casino-esque operation is actually not against the Israeli law because
the internet gambling was targeted outside of Israel. The police case claims
that the business was actually conducting some of the internet gambling for
Israelis as well.
That remains to be seen as Judge Esther Nachlieli-Khayat presides over the case
and will hear both sides of the case and all of the evidence. Online casinos are
a controversial subject all over the world and this is one of only a few cases
that take place in Israel, the country does not actually have a huge problem
with illegal internet gambling. Those arrested are now free on bail and will
remain so until the case finds resolution.
The outcome of the case is likely going to come down to the semantics of the
online casino gambling situation. Those on trial claim that their business is
entirely legal in the state because they block Israeli gamblers completely from
the sites. The only part of the business that operates out of Israel are the
servers that power the gambling sites – and that, they claim, is perfectly
legal. |
