Enormous Betting Limit Increase
The online casino gambling and internet betting situation in British Columbia is
creating a lot of controversy this month because of some new changes and much
more liberal policies that have just been put in place. British Columbia has
long had a very conservative gaming and gambling market; that has all been
changing over the past several months and years though as the government begins
to expand further into the lucrative field of online casino gambling, internet
lotteries, and a large internet betting market. Although punters in BC have been
able to place bets through the internet for some time now the site had a limit
of a mere $120 a week that gamblers were able to bet each week on the site. That
number is remarkably low but was put in place as a way to ensure that gamblers
did not become addicted to the online casinos and internet betting venues.
The BC Lottery Corporation has stirred up some new controversy this week though
with the announcement that online bettors are now able to wager as much as
$10,000 a week through the internet. This increase is enormous and much more
than anyone in the industry could have anticipated the officials made the wager
limit increase on the theory that research has shown that the vast majority of
gamblers are able to place wagers responsibly and that they can effectively set
and enforce personal wagering limits.
Those concerned with the problem gambling rates in BC are voicing some definite
disapproval for the hike in wagering limits so rapidly and without either
warning or consultation with other problem gambling experts in the industry. |
