Clearing Up the Facts
The online casino gambling situation in the United States is a pretty tricky
area for a lot of people to easily understand. One of the most common issues in
the industry right now is the misrepresentation of facts concerning the industry
and the continued spread of this false information by anti-gambling groups. The
laws regarding internet gambling in the US are very complex and simple
explanations and finger-pointing by the internet gambling opponents is not doing
the companies, the online casinos, or the industry any good. Clear and accurate
information is needed and that is just the obstacle facing supporters of a
regulated and licensed US internet gambling industry.
The Appeals Court ruling last month has really confused even high-level
spokespersons for anti-online casino gambling initiatives. The Appeals Court
ruling upheld the individual state right to prohibit the financial transactions
between online casinos and internet gamblers within the state. The opponents of
the industry though was recently interviewed on OneNewsNow and implied that the
ruling upholds the federal law that prohibits internet gambling in the US.
There is no such law in the United States. At the federal level, online casino
gambling is legal for the internet gamblers. The UIGEA, the key piece of US
legislation in question, only applies to the financial transactions and payment
levels of gambling. At this point in time internet gambling is legal for
individual gamblers at the federal level. The state level is an entirely
different matter and several states have criminalized internet gambling in the
past several years. |
