A New Black Market
The United States was one of the first countries to realize an enormous black
market in the online casino gambling industry that cropped up as a result of
harsh and restrictive gambling regulations. The US implemented the UIGEA which
effectively banned offshore online casinos from accessing US players while still
providing carve-outs for certain types of gambling that only US internet
gambling companies could access. The only problem was – the internet gambling
culture was already fully launched in the US and the removal of the licensed and
honest online gambling companies has lead the way for additional unscrupulous
sites to step in. The situation is now occurring in other countries that have
chosen to place harsh limitations on the gaming industry.
Bulgaria is currently experiencing a big problem with the country’s black market
for online casinos and internet gambling sites. The Bulgarian government has
really put some very restrictive laws in place in the hopes of keeping tight
control over the industry and the only thing it has really done is create a very
large black market for gaming sites in Bulgaria. The fact that the internet is
quite so pervasive is one of the main detractors for many governments, they feel
that online casino gambling needs to be tightly leashed and the US and Bulgaria
are making examples of themselves about how tight regulations and restrictions
can massively backfire.
The black markets in these two countries are backfiring right now and the
governments are searching for ways to continue tight control and blocking of
certain types of online casino gambling while also stopping the growth in the
dangerous black market. |
