Making Amends in France

The French government announced a while back that the country had decided to alter its current gambling regulations to become more inclusive and more in line with what the international community expects. France is a part of the European Union and the previous internet gambling regulation was very protectionist and did not create a fair and level playing field for all of the online casinos operating in the international market. The EU has supported France in the country’s attempts to now create a more open market and the process of writing the regulations is underway.

The initial online casino gambling regulations were not very well received by the EU or the European internet gambling industry. Some of the specifics within the regulations were not supportive of a free and open market and the taxes laid out in the regulations would have still made it cost prohibitive for some online casinos to enter the market. France though announced plans to modify and amend the previous regulations to line up with the EU’s expectations.

With the modifications completed it seems as though France is now one step closer to implementing these regulations; the EU has seen, reviewed, and generally approved of the current draft of France’s online casino gambling regulations. There is a hope that the new regulations will be implemented by the beginning of the year new year but there is a acknowledgement that it could very well take a bit longer before all of the legislative process is handled and then the regulations will take time to be implemented.
