Online Casinos Worry Amusement Industry
The United States does not have legalized online casino gambling industry – that
shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to anyone at this point. But what the US
does have is an extensive amusement industry that has flourished without
competition from online casinos and internet gambling companies. The Amusement
and Music Operators Association has expressed some very real trepidation about
the possibility that online casinos will fully launch into the US market.
Internet gambling is a highly competitive market and one that has really begun
to dominate the adult entertainment industries in Europe and the UK. The US
amusements industry though is rightly worried that legalized gambling will
greatly compete with the number of gamblers interested in paying for
non-gambling fun at their local bars and taverns.
Land gambling throughout the United States has skyrocketed over the past several
years as state governments expand and legalize the activity as a way to fund
state budgets. The recessive economy has hit a lot of states hard – but those
with video poker machines and other forms of extensive land casino gambling and
betting industries have actually not experienced the same concerns as states
with limited forms of gambling. Adding the online casinos into the mix through
will really change that dynamic and the amusements industry is worried that they
will be the first to become eclipsed and outdated once internet gambling is
legal in the US.
There are very few case studies in place right now about the effect that full
legalization and liberalization of the online casinos has had on the amusements
industry in the UK but this is likely where the US market will need to look if
there is any hope for survival once the internet gambling industry is fully
legalized. And really, that is just a matter of time. |
