Why the Ban in Place?

Europe has started the trend and schools all over the United States already use blocking software to prevent computers from accessing certain types of sites. As the online casino gambling industry gains more exposure in the US and the European markets there is a big push for parents to take their own preemptive steps to protect their children from the internet by using existing free software to block sites from their home computers. A huge argument for keeping the controversial UIGEA in place is the fact that politicians claim that the American youth need to be protected from exposure to online casinos and gambling companies. Existing software on the market right now though is leaps and bounds more effective at protecting youth against exposure to the market, so it begs the question, why exactly is online casino gambling banned at the federal level in the US?

The UIGEA does not work and online casino gamblers all over the United States are still able to access internet gambling sites that accept their money and offer gambling services. Software such as OpenDNS though is already on the market, already being used by businesses and schools all over the US, and already proven extremely effective at blocking online casinos and gambling from computers, in addition to blocking as many as 50 other different categories. The key to this whole argument is the fact that the software is both free and effective. It works. And it works far better than the UIGEA.

A growing argument from the online casino gambling industry centers on the fact that the main arguments in support of a federally banned internet gambling industry can be effectively handled outside of the federal government. Protection of the nation’s youth from internet gambling is not directly addressed by the UGIEA, the vague legislation and even more vague support regulations do not serve to actively support efforts to limit the exposure of internet gambling to the nation’s youth. There are working solutions to these issues so it really does beg the question, why is the federal government banning internet gambling?
