Tide Changing in Malta for Online Casinos
Malta is a focal point in the global online casino gambling industry for
internet gambling and is considered on of the top internet licensing
jurisdictions in the world. There are several key jurisdictions that license
internet gambling and Malta is right up there as one of the top jurisdictions
using tough standards to regulate and monitor the internet gambling industry.
Interestingly, Malta actually has very lax regulations on the country’s land
gambling industry – a fact that the Social Policy Minister in the country is
really looking to change. John Dalli is the Social Policy Minister in Malta and
he holds a pretty strong opinion that the advertising of gambling activities at
both the land and online casinos should be banned from the Maltese market.
Dalli is of the opinion that the land and online casino gambling industry needs
very strict controls in place to assure that not only are the gambling companies
kept in check, but that problem gambling does not become a big issue in Malta.
Importantly, Dalli is definitely not against the internet gambling industry in
the country, but rather he feels that the although the online casinos and land
gambling companies are welcome in the Maltese market, there is no need to overly
promote the industry and encourage problem gambling habits to form or to expose
the country’s youth to the gambling industry unnecessarily.
There is certainly some validity to his concerns considering so much of the
Maltese economy is already formed around the online casino gambling industry and
the licensing of international gambling groups that are based out of Malta,
provide jobs to many Maltese families and are generally a strong presence on the
island. |
