Strength from Online Casino Sites
Although the Kentucky situation involving the state government’s attempted
seizure of 140 internet gambling domain names has been out of the news for quite
a while, the situation has just been dormant while the case was waiting for the
hearing date with the Kentucky Supreme Court. iMEGA is one of the chief
companies advocating for the rights of the online casinos and internet
neutrality and iMEGA presented its case before the Supreme Court this week. The
Kentucky state government made headlines over the past year because the state
government made the controversial move to try to seize more than 140 domain
names that supposedly offered illegal online casino gambling to Kentucky State
residents.
iMEGA has a strong case against the Kentucky government because, in actuality,
the state government’s case borders on the ridiculous and certainly oversteps
the appropriate international boundaries of the internet. The case is so
controversial that it has made it to the state Supreme Court for a ruling, and
the online casinos and internet gambling companies highly anticipate that the SC
will side with iMEGA and the internet gambling sites.
The Poker Players Alliance (PPA) strongly supported iMEGA’s attempts to have
this case dismissed once and for all, and the Executive Director at the PPA,
John Pappas, recently commented about iMEGA’s case presented at the hearing,
"The attorneys for the side of the online sites did a very good job of
presenting compelling, reasonable reasons for dismissing this case.” According
to most analysts working on the case, the state still has an incredibly weak
case when it comes to grounds for the actual seizure of the internationally
registered domain names of the online casinos in question. |
