Tighter Social Controls for Online Casinos
Online casino gambling policies in Malta are likely to change in the very near
future as John Dalli, the Social Policy Minister on the island takes up the
cause and calls for some tighter controls on several aspects of the gambling
industry. Malta is a top licensing jurisdiction in the global gambling industry
and the island is known for progressive and strong internet gambling regulations
for all of the online casinos licensed out of Malta. A growing concern for the
Maltese though is the impact of internet gambling on the Maltese themselves.
Dalli has come right out with his position on the situation and announced that
gambling related advertising on the island should be banned and controls put in
place to track where the internet gambling is coming from to protect some of the
more vulnerable in Malta.
Problem gambling is a growing concern in the global community and as the Social
Policy Minister Dalli has taken on the internet gambling industry head-on and
plans to introduce new avenues of control for the impact that online casinos
have on Maltese gamblers. Dalli’s essential message is not to prohibit and stop
internet gambling, but to rather minimize the ability for gambling abuse and
addictive gambling habits to form. Dalli supports the online casino gambling
industry from an entertainment perspective but is looking to implement
additional controls that will better track and limit the potential for abuse.
In addition to proposed bans on advertising from the online casinos, Dalli
proposes that the Maltese gambling authorities should work with the ISP to track
IP addresses. This information would help the Maltese authorities determine
where internet gambling is most popular and how to better offer problem gambling
preventative measures. |
