Seizures Still Rampant
The attacks on the US bank accounts that are suspected of affiliation with the
online casino gambling industry are ramping up in force instead of tapering off
as so many in the industry had hoped. The seizure of bank accounts by the US
government and state officials really started, in force, in June and since that
point US gamblers have been taken aback by the sheer force of these seizures.
The UIGEA gives the federal and state governments the right to stop financial
transactions between US gamblers and the foreign online casinos and internet
gambling groups. The US Attorney’s Office in Maryland has seized another six
accounts this week and put many gamblers on edge.
Prior to these account seizures US gamblers were pretty confident that their
gambling funds were safe if they could find online casinos willing to accept US
players. That is changing though as the Maryland US Attorney’s office has now
seized the bank accounts of 15 alleged internet gambling related accounts that
were operating from California and other states. The warrants for these account
seizures are mostly sealed and that is just how the government wants to keep the
situation. The internet companies and online casino and poker companies affected
have taken the Attorney’s Office to court asking for the release of the seizure
warrants but only a limited amount of the date has been released because there
are more seizures underway.
This spate of attacks on the online casino gambling industry is really alarming
for many internet gambling companies and the US gamblers who have been
complacently depositing their funds into these accounts under the assumption
that their money was likely pretty safe. |
