Same, Same, or Different?
There’s a pretty contentious debate in the gambling industry about just what
gamblers “get” from the online casino gambling industry in contrast to the
experience offered at land gambling venues. Brick and mortar gambling venues are
quick to point out that gambling with real live smells and sounds around is an
entirely different experience than the more sanitized experience offered at
online casinos. There is certainly a point to be had there, internet gambling is
certainly more convenient for many people all over the world to take part in the
pastime, but they are not getting the same experience as the real live gambling
venues serving up some alcohol, pumping the A/C, and the inviting glitz as far
as the eye can see.
That begs the question then, are the online casino games as good as their land
gambling counterparts? The answer really lies not only in the desired
experience, but also in which specific game is in question. Slots games
translate easily to the Web because they were already computer based terminals
and now the interface is just a keyboard in laptop screen instead of the actual
slot machine sitting in front of the player.
Roulette is also a key game gaining excitement at the online casinos as the
user-interfaces become more realistic and gamblers are able to watch the
roulette action unfold on their screens…but perhaps this is one of those games
that just isn’t the same as in person roulette gambling. Sure, the mechanics of
the game are the same, and some brick and mortar establishment have even taken
to automated roulette wheels with video-interfaces, but traditionally roulette
with a man spinning the wheel is still it’s own kind of excitement and one that
is similar to the online gambling world, but different in the end. |
