Online Casinos Pose Risk
As the British Psychological Society’s Social Psychology Conference winds down
the online casino gambling industry has been left in the defensive position of
citing research that counters some of the claims in the from research presented
at the Conference. Essentially, new research out of the UK has indicated that
gambling at the online casinos could have more than double the rates of problem
gambling. This is a serious departure from the breadth of evidence coming out of
other global research companies. Research in the past year has coalesced on the
opinion that internet gambling and land gambling have the same levels of problem
gambling.
In the United States, some research has even gone so far as to conclude that
online casinos have lesser rates of problem gambling than their land gambling
counterparts. Now, nearly every issue and industry has conflicting evidence at
some stage of the process, and in this case, there are still numerous studies
that counter the findings that were presented at the Conference. The recent
Conference presented information about a variety of subjects and this was not an
event focus on the online casino gambling industry.
The Conference, however, provided the research presenters with the opportunity
to debate and discuss their theories about problem gambling within the online
casino gambling industry and gave a large platform for a lot of important
discussion to take place. On the flip side, the internet gambling companies are
certainly not pleased with this research and there is a big hope that additional
research will negate the influence of the Nottingham Trent University gambling
research study. |
