Poker Similarities
The land and online casino gambling industries share a lot in common and the
basic idea of gambling remains true in both mediums, but there are some definite
differences between the land and online gambling industries and ones that are
sometimes subtle and often times a big contrast between the two gaming
experiences. In addition to the differences and similarities mentioned in the
previous article about slots and roulette, poker is arguably one of the most
popular games on the market. And again, like roulette, the game of poker changes
when it is taken out of the personal and human interaction level and translated
onto the computer screen. Perhaps more than any of the other games, poker is the
one that translates least consistently into the online casinos.
In large part, poker is a game about reading the other players, bluffing,
calling bluffs, and generally reading the table to get a feel for the situation
as the game is played. Poker at the online casino gambling sites though takes on
a whole different quality – one that is still a lot of fun, but the game is
different. The best way to illustrate the point is to look at the poker
professionals who have gotten their start at the online casinos and virtual
poker rooms – these players have openly stated that there is a learning curve
and adjustment period when taking the game from the internet poker rooms to the
live tables where other players are watching your every gesture and facial
expression.
It’s important to recognize that while these two ways of enjoying the game of
poker are very different, they are both completely valid and fun ways to enjoy
the game. The online casinos are emerging as an undeniably huge industry…but
perhaps not an industry that is going to eliminate the need for land gambling
venues that provide the interpersonal interactions within gambling that many
gamblers still prefer and enjoy. |
