Taking On the Opposition
Barney Frank is not afraid of having a little bit of a fight on his hands and
this is just precisely what has one Frank the loyalty and support of the
international online casino gambling industry. Representative Frank is one of
the most outspoken politicians in the US right now actively fighting the UGIEA
and pushing for more inclusive and workable internet gambling legislation in the
US. The online casinos are banned and blocked as a part of the UIGEA and there
are many politicians actively trying to perpetuate the flawed UIGEA legislation
with more support regulations, rules, and policies. Frank though is constantly
working to fight the UIGEA and his latest efforts include starting a letter to
the Treasury Department asking that the payment processing bans delay
implementation.
The letter sent to the US Treasury Department has the support of nearly 20 US
Representatives who all feel that implementation of the laws that will ban the
processing of online casino gambling payments would unnecessarily stress the
financial institutions that already have a tough time right now because of the
sagging economy. The bill outlines the issues that the Representatives have with
implementing the new rules as soon as December 1st and call for the
implementation to fall back for one year.
There is, naturally, a bit of an ulterior motive to Frank’s actions; Frank is
still pushing his own legislation through Congress right now and there is a very
real hope that Frank’s legislation, which calls for the licensing and regulation
of online casinos in the US market, will pass through into law and thus
neutralize the UIGEA by this time next year. |
