Likelihood of Online Casino Passage
The online casino gambling industry in the United States is on a roller coaster
ride of sorts as new situations, issues, and debates are fired at the gambling
industry in rapid succession. Congressman Barney Frank has been actively
pursuing neutralization of the UIGEA for years now and it looks as though his
bill is just a heartbeat away from Congressional review. But yet that heartbeat
turns into two and then three, and the Congressional review for Frank’s bill
continues to get pushed back in favor of more pressing issues that are facing
the United States. This is not the first time that the online casinos have
gotten the shaft from the US government and likely will not be the last. Review
of Frank’s bill was supposed to occur during the July Congressional session and
then was pushed back to September. Now it looks as though it may have to wait
for yet another Congressional session to take place sometime in the coming year.
Unfortunately, this is just one of the challenges facing those supporters of a
regulated US online casino gambling industry. In addition to the troubles
getting the bill even reviewed by Congress, the climate surrounding the internet
gambling industry is constantly fluctuating and there is a growing fear that the
political and economic climate will be poised against online casinos at the
point that Congress chooses to review and debate Frank’s bill that calls for the
licensing and regulation of the US internet gambling industry.
One industry analysts notes that the focus and concerns over the health care
package and the US economy are superceding the online casino gambling industry
and that some Democrats who might normally support the Frank’s bill might
hesitate to pass any new legislation that would further upset the Republicans
while the Democrats are attempting to pass health care reform bills. |
