They Like It!
Barney Frank may not have won the battle yet but he has certainly made
advancements on the field. Congressman Frank is the front-header of efforts to
push through his sponsored legislation that would neutralize the UIGEA
legislation and instead legalize and regulate online casino gambling in the US
market. Frank has pushed this bill for nearly three years now and as the bill
gets closer and closer to reaching the floor of Congress for discussion, an
increasing number of politicians are adding their support and backing to Frank’s
efforts. The UIGEA, the current piece of legislation aimed at handling online
casinos, is highly flawed and has caused international issues.
The inadequacies of the UGIEA are just a part of the equation however, Frank’s
legislation is strong enough to stand on its own and not only as an alternative
to the UIGEA. The US needs new online casino gambling legislation that really
addresses the current domestic and international issues facing this global
industry. In terms of support, Frank now has 58 members of Congress supporting
his bill, that’s four more co-sponsors than just last month. These members of
Congress are now supporting Frank and the bill’s efforts to modernize the US
gambling industry by welcoming offshore online casinos into licensed and highly
regulated internet gambling industry.
This great news though, of more co-sponsors for the bill, is tempered with the
fact that the bill may not reach the floor of Congress for discussion until the
next year. The online casino gambling industry has been very patient and it
looks as though the industry may have to wait a bit longer since speculation
indicates that although it was scheduled to make review in this session of
Congress other high-priority bills may take precedence. |
