Isn't It Ironic

Alanis Morrisette might have been onto something with her song “Isn’t it Ironic,” because the US Department of Justice, state governments, and the US federal governments themselves have undertaken actions over the past six months that are proving just how unsafe the US online casino gambling industry really is. The key argument for the UIGEA is that the internet gambling industry is unsafe and gamblers need protection from the unscrupulous gambling industry. But ironically enough the biggest dangers within the US gambling industry aren’t coming from the online casinos at all, but rather from the actions of the US Department of Justice and the US Attorney’s Office.

The Maryland US Attorney’s Office has the approval of the federal government to continue seizing accounts that are filled with the hard-earned money of US online casino gamblers. The seized funds are not likely to be returned to the US gamblers and this is causing a lot of stress and concern for US gamblers. Although the claims that offshore online casinos are dangerous for US gamblers a greater number of gamblers have been negatively affected by the latest bank account seizures than any recorded unscrupulous activity from the gambling sites.

It’s just incredibly ironic that the US government is focusing so much time and energy on seizing these accounts when the persons they are primarily hurting are the US gamblers rather than the online casino sites. Previous methods of freezing accounts and forcing redistribution of the funds (Neteller) and prosecution of the gambling companies themselves (Party Gaming) had a much less negative effect on the US citizens themselves.
