Licensing Indian Online Casino Industry
India has long been regarded as a country with a bit of potential for an online
casino gambling industry but generally not a huge lucrative market because of
the rampant poverty in the country. All of that has begun to change in the past
several years as several wealthier regions of the country emerge and several of
the key internet gambling and betting companies are vying for entry into the
emerging market in the Province of Sikkim. The Province of Sikkim has announced
a plan to license online casinos in the very near future and companies like
William Hill, Bwin, and Betfair are all interested in obtaining a gambling
license. There are several other provinces in India that actually would allow
forms of internet gambling, but the internet has not thoroughly penetrated these
regions yet and there is still a lot of poverty to contend with.
But India is increasingly showing pockets of wealth throughout the country and
that leaves the perfect opening for the online casinos and betting sites to
begin a gradual entry into the vast Indian market. All three companies are
actually quite eager to obtain the licenses though; for all of the talk about
gradual entry into the Indian market, the online casino gambling groups are
ready to almost immediately launch internet gambling and betting opportunities
into the Province of Sikkim once they receive a gambling license.
At this point, Sikkim has not yet released the number of permits the Province
plans to license out and although several large online casino gambling companies
announced their plans to obtain a license, many other smaller gambling companies
are also interested in the market but are waiting for process to begin and for
Sikkim to announce more specifics about the potential gambling industry in the
region. |
