Health Care Hurting Passage
Tony Cabot is a lawyer from Las Vegas who has gained a name in the international
gambling industry as an expert on the online casinos and the US internet
gambling industry in particular. Cabot came out with a unique perspective on
Barney Frank’s bill that indicates that it’s not very likely that any sort of
federal level changes are going to occur within the gambling industry at this
point because of outside factors rather than for lack of support. A lot of the
online casino gambling industry felt a leap of hope that the Frank’s internet
gambling bill would pass through as a result of the need for more money into the
federal budget to support health care initiatives. That hope was short-lived
though as objections rose toward linking the two controversial industries. Now,
it could just be the health care reform that defeats the online gambling bill
for a different reason.
Cabot notes that the Democrats right now are very focused on pushing through the
new and controversial health care reform and this is certainly a priority on the
Democrat platform right now. The online casino gambling industry is a secondary
concern for the Democrats and one that just doesn’t rate as high on the totem
pole according to Cabot. Frank’s legislation for the regulation and licensing of
online casinos is unlikely to pass largely because of a timing issue. The
Democrats do not want to give Republicans any issues with which to dilute the
focus and success of the health care debates.
The online casinos are a hotbed of debate and issue for the Republicans and this
would just cause more controversy at a time when the health care reform bills
are taking priority. Many Republicans are very vocal against Frank’s bill and
would take any opportunity to rally against the Democratic cause. |
