It Just Needs to Happen
The internet is not going anywhere anytime soon as a global medium that has
connected the world through communication and the sharing of information. When
the internet fully launched in the early 90s there was no telling where the
medium was headed. Now though the internet represents a vibrant and massive
communication network between individuals and businesses from all over the
world. All of this connectivity has also lead to the development and
augmentation of unique industries such as online casinos and internet gambling
sites. Like the internet, the internet gambling industry is here to stay – the
technology is out there and the global public has accepted online casino
gambling as a valid pastime. So what is the US thinking by passing a ban on the
internet gambling industry and trying to keep this present and pervasive medium
out of the US?
The United States passed the highly controversial legislation that bans
financial transactions between foreign online casinos and US gamblers and now
the industry in the US has gone underground. If the US government truly aimed at
protecting the interests of Americans that the government would have passed
strict regulations for the licensing of online casino gambling rather than
banning the industry. Now that internet gambling sites are banned from
transacting with the US gamblers all of this is still occurring but under the
table and without the US government gaining any piece of the action from tax
revenues.
Political debates are rampant right now throughout the United States and the
general consensus is that the US government needs to right this egregious
legislation that has been in place for three years now. The internet isn’t going
anywhere anytime soon and neither are the online casinos – the only logical
solution for protecting the US public is to openly address the situation through
legislation and regulation. |
