Entrapping Online Casinos
The latest round of attacks on the bank accounts that facilitate internet
gambling activity between offshore online casino sites and US gamblers has made
a lot of companies wary of continuing to do any business within the US market.
Additionally, the US government doesn’t seem to be playing fairly either and is
purposely looking for ways to entrap the online casinos and thus give the
government a reason to seize the bank accounts associated with the gambling
companies. In a reason case that has come to light, investigators for the US
Attorney’s Office specifically targeted Golden Casino and repeatedly tried new
tactics to gain entrance to the gambling site despite Golden’s repeated denial
of accounts to undercover investigators attempting to sign up for an account
from Louisiana.
According to recent information released the investigators were repeatedly
denied entrance into the Golden Casino online gambling site because they resided
in Louisiana. The investigators repeatedly attempted to sign up and eventually
one was able to gain access to the site – which then gives the US government the
right to seize the site’s affiliate bank accounts in the US. Some online casinos
are crying foul and noting that the situation reeks of entrapment. But at the
same time, the US Department of Justice is rumored to have the support of
President Obama for these internet gambling seizures so there may be little help
coming.
Although there was a hope that the Obama administration was going to change the
US Department of Justice practices that were so clearly and vocally criticized
during the Bush administration, Obama has apparently chosen to renege on those
campaign promises. |
