More Efforts Will Develop
The sporting world has only in the past couple of years recognized the very
valid threat that the global expansion of the online casino betting industry
could have on the sports teams themselves and the threat of corruption in the
games. Betting levels are skyrocketing all over the world and with more people
paying for a stake in the game there is a fear that it will become increasingly
hard to monitor every aspect of the industry. Match-fixing and betting
corruption has been the key focus over the past year and the European football
associations have developed a keen interest in monitoring the land and internet
betting companies.
Surveillance teams and task forces are the prominent method right now for
preventing corruption in sports. All of the major online casino betting brands
are gradually linking themselves with the sports teams and that has worried many
of the organizations that oversee the sports teams and games. Right now though,
the efforts are at the infancy stages and there is still a lot more that can be
implemented to safeguard sports from this type of corruption –the efforts have
only been in place for a couple of years.
Other areas of corruption within the game are also at the infancy stages of
finding an effective solution. The online casinos don’t really play a big role
in the other areas of concern. Anti-doping and drug monitoring efforts are at
the early stages according to Detlev Zenglein, the Head of Competitive Analysis
for EWS. The sports industry is taking steady steps forward into advancement to
fight sports corruption but Zenglein feels there is still a long way to go. |
