WAAG: Czech Republic: Overview Online Casino Sites
The Baltic States are some of the newest countries to enter the online casino
gambling industry because only in the past few years have citizens of many
Eastern European countries had easy access to high-speed internet and broadband
connections. Unfortunately for many countries, although the online casinos would
be well-received, broadband internet connection is a definite pre-requisite
before the gambling industry will even think about entering the market. Czech
Republic falls into the category of newly EU accepted member-states that are
still working to up their standards and offer what are givens in the Western
World, namely internet, where the internet casinos are concerned.
The Czech Republic does not have modern policies relating to the online casino
gambling industry in the country and just this year, in March 2009, the Finance
Minister announced plans to make some significant changes to the country’s
internet gambling policies. Most importantly, it seems as though the Czech
government is receptive to new regulations that would license the internet
gambling industry and provide very wide-ranging and liberal gambling policies.
The Finance Minister noted that the country plans to license any and all online
casinos operating in the Czech market and that the new regulations will include
preventative and controlling measures so that underage gamblers do not have
access to the industry.
At this point, internet lotteries are available within the market, if not the
online casinos. Sazka is one of the only companies really servicing the small
Czech market. There is a strong anticipation that the recent expansion of
broadband internet in the country, coupled with new regulations, is all that
Czech Republic needs to grow a lucrative internet gambling industry. |
