Curbing College Problem Gambling
Problem gambling at colleges and Universities across the United States is a
growing concern that has legislators and politicians supporting efforts to
really begin to address gambling policies on campus across the country. The Task
Force on College Gambling is designed to help colleges develop a unified and
clear policy about gambling and also have support measures in place to support
those University students with land and online casino gambling addictions that
may seek help from campus resources. The Task Force is currently fighting to get
colleges to accept problem gambling as a form of addiction and to treat
addictions with the same level of support services as any physical ailments that
students have.
The issue right now is that online casino and land gambling is still rampant
around the United States despite the fact that the federal government has banned
internet gambling at the transactional level. The Task Force has expanded on the
issue and noted that the online casinos are actually targeting college level
adults with internet gambling advertisements and promotions and yet there are
very few policies in place to educate young adults about the internet gambling
industry and preventing gambling addictions from forming.
The advent of mobile gambling and other key technologies that link with the
online casino gambling industry has also increased the number of college-aged
gamblers seeking out land, internet, and mobile gaming opportunities. The task
force is calling for the universities and colleges in the United States to take
some social responsibility and begin offering support and educational services
about the land and online gambling industries. |
