Bad Luck for Online Casinos
Integrity is sports is a huge topic right now in the internet gambling and
sporting industry. The sporting authorities are worried about relationships
between the online casinos and the sporting teams influencing the outcome of
events and compromising the integrity of the game. The Tennis industry in
particular is very worried about corruption within the game and match-fixing and
other forms of manipulation taking place at online casino sports betting sites.
The Tennis Integrity Unit was recently formed as a way for the tennis industry
to actively and proactively investigate any suspicious betting patterns that
could indicate corruption of the game. A recent case under investigation by the
TIU looks as though it’s just a case of bad luck for the internet gambling
companies, although the Unit is launching an investigation just to ensure that
all activity was completely above-board.
The situation at hand deals with in-game betting that flooded the online casino
betting sites half-way through a match between Caroline Wozniacki and Anne
Kremer. The two tennis pros were in their second set, Wozniacki in the lead,
when Wozniacki’s father was broadcast on international television telling his
daughter that she should not finish the match because of a hamstring injury that
could be made worse. Although Wozniacki’s father relayed the information in
Polish, enough of the online casino bettors caught on and flooded the bookmakers
with in-game bets in favor of Kremer.
Wozniacki did in fact resign from the match and her decision, as the previous
odds-on favorite, cost the online casino bookmakers a lot of money because they
were not able to effectively respond to the bets and change the odds before the
damage was done. Although the case appears to be an accident and a case of bad
luck for the bookmakers, the Tennis Integrity Unit has announced an
investigation will launch to ensure that the situation was above-board and an
honest in-game decision to resign from the match. |
