Can Regulation Work? Part 2
If the European Union member-states are not effectively blocking and banning the
online casinos, why do they continue to approach control over the industry from
this perspective. Throughout all of these failed bans and blocks, the United
Kingdom has provided a strong example of just how effective full regulations and
licensing can be within any given country. The UK has an extensive online casino
gambling industry with a lot of options for UK gamblers, but there are also a
lot of controls in place. The UK gamblers can feel safe in their choices within
the gambling industry because the government uses a licensing and “white
listing” options as way to keep only honest and scrupulous companies operating
in the UK market.
The UK government has really set up all of the mainstream standards that are
being touted as the base-line minimum standards for the global online. Although
the UK has a lot of internet gambling sites operating, it’s safe. The incidence
rates of problem gambling are right in line with rates for the nation’s land
gambling industry. And perhaps a key reason for online casino gambling controls
and regulations is the tax revenue that is created for the government if the
internet gambling sites are licensed properly.
In the US, those individuals campaigning for a legal US online casino gambling
industry are really keen on touting the fact that the online casinos have the
potential to generate billions of dollars over the course of a decade – needed
money that can be funneled into social programs. |
