Really Putting a Stop to It
The Chinese government has not made a secret of the government’s distaste for
the global online casino gambling industry. In fact, China likes to control an
awful lot where the Internet is concerned, and the internet gambling industry
happens to doubly strike out because it is a Web based industry, in addition to
the fact that it allows large-scale gambling. In the past several months though
the Chinese government has really ramped up its efforts to put an end to illegal
and underground internet gambling and betting activities that have cropped up
frequently in China. In addition to harsher punishments for the Chinese citizens
operating the online casinos and gambling rings, the Chinese authorities are
also working on stronger firewalls that will keep out illegal industries.
The stronger firewalls have been only partially necessitated by the illegal
online casino gambling industry in China, the Chinese government also actively
fears the spread of foreign information through communication channels such as
Twitter and other media portals. The Ministry of Public Security has announced
the new national efforts in place to really keep betting and wagering from
within China’s borders. Considering the size and scope of the potential Chinese
market there are many Chinese who are willing to jump through hoops to bet and
gamble on foreign games, no matter how illegal the activity.
Concern of corruption within the Asian sports teams is also a chief concern, the
Chinese government fears that match-fixing and other forms of corruption are
already affecting the matches in the country. The government plans to really
crack down on these possible programs and to stop the foreign online casinos
from corrupting Chinese sports – as if the foreign gambling sites are the only
ones to blame for internal corruption and bribing within the sports teams. |
