German Online Casinos A Possibility
The German state of Schleswig-Holstein could be just the rebel state that the
online casino gambling industry needed to open up the German gambling industry
to foreign competition. All but one of Germany’s states agreed to allow a state
monopoly to operate in the country over the next several years – but now that
the German ban on foreign online casinos has actually taken place, the German
states are less inclined to keep the legislation in place, especially if one of
the states breaks ranks. Schleswig-Holstein has withdrawn from the current
national ban on internet gambling companies competing against the state
monopoly.
And now that one has made the bold move to expand its online casino gambling
industry there is a strong likelihood that several of the other states will
follow suit. In fact, several of German states are rumored to be looking to also
withdraw from the German State Treaty on Gaming. These states are now interested
in offering private online casino gambling operators access to their state
gaming markets despite the national treaty that is designed to only support
Germany’s state monopoly.
Schleswig-Holstein has really changed the game in the German market. The
European Commission has continually pushed for Germany to open its market to
foreign online casinos and encourage free-trade between EU member-states; the
government has refused compliance but it seems as thought the states see the
benefits of open and inclusive gaming markets. These dissenting German states
may just crumble the foundation of the current German Treaty that blocks the
foreign online gambling sites and save German from a case in the European Court
of Justice. |
