Danish Model Forming
Denmark is making headlines this month as the country that was once such a
proponent of gambling monopolies and a highly protected online casino gambling
market is now looking to liberalize the market and become a model country in
terms of inclusive gambling regulations. The about-face was actually really
sudden and took the gambling industry by surprise as the Danish lawmakers are
rapidly developing these new liberal gambling regulations. The idea being, that
Denmark will formulate regulations that allows for fair competition between the
online casinos while also closely monitoring and regulating the internet
gambling companies in a fair manner.
A huge issue in the European market right now is the fact that nearly a dozen
countries still support and operate online casino gambling monopolies. And to
further compound the issue, many European countries that have agreed to comply
with EU law have gone out of their way to develop complex regulations and
loopholes that will stave off European Commission’s threat to refer countries to
the European Court of Justice – but yet many of these countries are not
implementing regulations that really level the playing field for the foreign
online casino sites.
Basically, many newly regulating and regulated countries have loop-holes and
complexities built into the new gambling laws. This is not effectively serving
the European community and it actually comes as a surprise that Denmark is the
country willing to step forward with a liberal and clearly outlined regulatory
strategy for the online casino industry. If Denmark’s newly proposed plan
implements effectively it really could stand as the standard model of European
online casino gambling regulations. |
