Israeli Cracks Down on Online Casinos
Over the past year the Israeli government has made it very clear that the
country was not willing to allow online casinos to operate within the countries
borders. There has been an interesting relationship between the Israeli
enforcement agencies looking to investigate and stop illegal gambling, and the
internet gambling companies that operate from Israel, but not for Israelis. That
distinction has long been tolerated from the Israeli government; as long as the
online casino gambling companies were not directly allowing Israeli gamblers to
access the sites many gambling companies were allowing servers and base
operations to headquarter in Israel.
In the past several months though the Israeli government has begun to
investigate these gambling companies that are supposedly operating online
casinos for foreign markets…and the results indicate that many are not as honest
in actuality as they are on paper. The Israeli authorities have announced
millions of dollars in seizures as an online casino gambling ring was busted
this month that was allowing Israeli citizens to gamble via the internet. The
bust was huge and the Israeli police raided as many as 37 residences and froze
as many as 160 bank accounts implicated in the internet gambling ring.
The gambling ring was actually less focused on the online casinos and rather
allowed Israeli citizens to wager on sports betting. The gambling ring had been
in operation for several years and took in as much as $100 million annually from
the illegal internet wagers. This gambling ring bust, though enormous, is just
one of what the police have indicated will be many raids and busts in the coming
months as the police attempt to eradicate illegal internet gambling. |
