A Golden Update
The news that Golden Casino was firmly backing out of the US gambling market was
a bit of a shock to the US gamblers who rely on only a handful of sites that
have been willing to violate US rules and illegally operate in the US market. In
more recent months, the US Department of Justice has really begun to crack down
on these online casinos and there is more danger than ever for the gambling
companies that continue to process transactions with US gamblers. Of course, the
reason for the change in Golden Casino’s policies has not been directly
attributed the recent account seizures. Instead, the gambling site has been sold
and the new management has vetoed the policies and operations that it took to
continue accepting US players.
It’s a bit of a play between the current US climate against online casinos, and
the fact that there are a whole lot of hoops that the gambling sites have to
jump through to accept payments from US gamblers (and even harder to payout
withdrawals). There is a strong movement in the US to legalize and regulate
online casino gambling and Golden Casino is willing to wait for full legality
rather than risk hefty fines, possible jail time, and prosecution from the US
government.
The UIGEA took effect in 2006, and though Golden has operated within the market
for all of that time, it’s better late then never to stop antagonizing the US
DoJ is the theory of the new management. The new changes take place this week
and there will be no new US-facing online casino gamblers accepted onto the
Golden gambling site after the first of December. |
