Interesting Exceptions
A favorite topic in the global online casino gambling industry right now centers
on the hypocrisy that the US government has displayed over the current internet
gambling industry regulations and restrictions. The European Union has claimed
that the US Department of Justice has primarily targeted enforcement measures
and prosecution on European online casinos and gambling companies while sparing
US companies that were also walking the fine line. In this case, Churchill Downs
is the company in question. Churchill Downs now owns the Youbet.com product,
which allows US gamblers to place bets on horseracing that is happening all over
the country.
That’s a pretty controversial exception that the US DoJ is making considering
all forms of online casino gambling and betting is supposedly illegal. Even with
YouBet.com operating in the market, and a new similar site launching out of
Nevada, analysts have gone on record stating that the only surefire way to avoid
DoJ prosecution and action is to offer in-state betting. Betting at the online
casino betting site that operates only within a single site. But YouBet.com does
now follow this wisdom and yet the DoJ has yet to act on the company’s blatant
offering of online gambling services.
Additionally, not only is YouBet in out-right confliction with the UIGEA and
enforcement policies released by the Department of Justice, but by now operating
as a piece of Churchill Downs, the acquisition has given Churchill downs
unprecedented control over the “legal” online casino horse race betting taking
place in the US. |
