Protectionist Claims Countered
The United States and China may not agree on everything (or even very much in
many cases) but the US and China seem to both be in agreement that about
protectionist gambling policies where the online casinos are concerned. And even
further, both countries are quick to claim that their restrictive policies are
not protectionist in nature, but rather fair restrictions that block unsafe
activities from the market. Honestly, the block is not entirely surprising from
China, but the United States is the land of the free and opportunity, and yet
the US government has some pretty controversial blocks in place. In fact, out of
the entire global online gambling industry, these two countries have the most
aggressive and severe gambling blocks in place, and yet both counties deny the
blocks are for internal protectionist reasons.
The online casino gambling policies of both the United States and China have
caused quite the stir throughout the industry in recent months and the fervor
will only heat up if the US government closes the current session of Congress
without making some serious steps toward change. For China, it’s been dubbed
“The Great Firewall” and in addition to the online casinos, China is keen on
blocking any questionable content that ranges from media and foreign news to any
form of internet gaming that is not already specifically allowed.
What really stings about the US and China online casino gambling policies is
that both countries flat-out refuse to admit that their policies are
protectionist. They have both gone so far as to claim that they are advocates of
free-trade and that both counties are honoring their treaty commitments to
globally free trade. |
