Superhero Online Casinos
A deal between Marvel Gaming and the online casino software development company
Playtech has altered the landscape of branded gaming content in the industry. CryptoLogic has long held the rains as the king of the superhero genre through
the exclusive licensing deal the company held with Marvel. As CryptoLogic’s
prestige and reputation have suffered over the past several months though the
company may have also lost one of its most bankable attributes – exclusive
access to top-branded content. The Marvel superhero comics are some of the most
internationally recognized brands in the entertainment world – from the Hulk to
Spiderman, CryptoLogic’s access to this branded content sealed the popularity of
the company’s gaming platform.
Now though a change in the landscape of the superhero games has put
CryptoLogic’s main rival, Playtech, in a position to seriously poach licensees.
Playtech signed a deal with Marvel gaming as well and will offer online casino
slots games with the key superhero brands. CryptoLogic’s licensing deal with the
company runs out in 2010 and at that time speculation is rampant that
CryptoLogic will choose to abandon the brand competition with Playtech and may
just face-off with the rival development company and offer online casinos the DC
comic superheroes.
CryptoLogic’s licensing deal with DC Comics has the ability to really pit the
two companies against one another in the coming years. Branded online casino
content is one of the most important aspects of the software development
industry and CryptoLogic’s loss of the exclusive Marvel deal will have a very
real impact on the company’s profits unless the new deal with DC Comics, and the
use of Superman and Batman superhero games sufficiently counter-acts the loss of
the exclusive Marvel deal.
