The Russian government has gone to great lengths over the past year to eliminate (or at least lessen) the effects of land and internet gambling on the Russian population. Land gambling was a bit out of control and now, all of the online casinos and gambling venues have been moved out of the cities and into more remote locations. There is no longer immediate access to land gambling in the nation – instead gamblers have to travel to the remote locations holding all of the land gambling venues. But for the online gambling industry, it’s a whole different ball game if the government seeks to ban the internet casinos and poker rooms.

As far as Russia goes, it seems as though online casinos might not be to far off in terms of legalization. Internet gambling sites are illegal throughout Russia, but interestingly enough, internet poker is legal. The fact that gamblers are able to participate in internet poker is a bit contrary to what many analysts predicted from the Russian government. Land casinos actually have a much better reputation in the international gambling industry for rates of controlled gambling. Online casinos are considered some of the worst forms of gambling in the world.

Internet poker on the other hand is either coupled in with online casinos, or, as is the case in Russia, the internet poker industry is given its own consideration. Russian internet poker is legal and many in the larger internet gambling industry have some hope that the legal status of internet poker is an indication of, perhaps, legalized internet casino gambling in the not-too-distant future.
