Land Casinos Recovering

The current recession that has impacted economies all over the world has also had a decidedly negative effect on the land casinos operating in the two major land gambling meccas – Las Vegas and Macau. Las Vegas has been very vocal in its news that the gambling venues are operating at record lows – Macau has been in a similar situation but for other reasons. The latest news out of Macau though indicates that casino revenues are back on the rise again thanks to some new visa controls coming out of China. The economy is also on recovery in some areas of the world and that means that more gamblers are once again willing to leave the online gambling sites behind and do destination gambling travel.

The first quarter of the year showed consistently rising profits to the casinos operating in Macau for each month of the quarter – as far as figures go, the revenues for the gambling venues rose 8.1 percent. The land gambling companies are not often in the position of pinching pennies – both the land and online casino gambling industries are hugely lucrative by nature. Macau though is in a unique position because it is focusing on the Asian market.

China imposed some visa controls on citizens looking to travel to the island of Macau – these visa controls severely limited the number of gamblers able to travel to the island and spend money at the online casinos – there are now talks however coming out of China that would ease the visa restrictions.
