Possibilities in South Carolina
The south of the United States seems to be rebelling just a bit against the
restrictive US laws that have banned offshore online casinos from accessing US
players and offering them any form of internet gambling or internet poker. The
landscape of gambling in the United States is changing, however, and the
individual state legislatures are certainly lured by the revenue potential of
legalized and licensed internet poker gambling. There has been a lot of
speculation in the international gambling industry about the federal
government’s stance on state internet poker gambling. US lawyers are finding the
situation similarly frustrating but all sources seem to indicate that there is a
strong possibility that both South Carolina and Florida are on the verge of
passing new legislation.
New gambling legislation in the south is a pretty big deal because of the
culture that emanates throughout the south – a culture of tradition and
moderation. The South Carolina legislature has the opportunity to take the
overturning of the antiquated gambling legislation one step even further in the
current direction. South Carolina has had the same tired land and online casino
gambling policy in place for nearly 200 years and only during this current
Congressional session did the state legislatures vote to change the
long-standing gambling legislation.
The online casino poker gambling industry sees a lot of potential in the current
situation and the PPA has been firm in its efforts to bring a new bill to vote
before the current Congressional session ends. The bill in question would
legalize internet poker gambling within the state borders and provide additional
funding for the state budget because of the ability to tax the internet poker
industry. There are only five days left in the current Congressional session in
South Carolina and the PPA has high hopes that the bill will pass through before
the summer. |
